About Us

The Iraqi Foundation for Foreign Policy (IFFP) is an independent, non-governmental, and non-profit civil society organisation founded in Baghdad in 2021. IFFP was established to address the gaps and inconsistencies that have characterised Iraq’s foreign policy in the post-2003 period, aiming to foster a more coherent, informed, and strategic approach to international engagement.

IFFP provides a neutral and inclusive platform for dialogue, research, and policy development on regional and global issues that impact Iraq. With a strong commitment to scientific inquiry and practical policy solutions, the Foundation brings together leading academics, decision-makers, diplomats, civil society representatives, and researchers to help shape Iraq’s role on the international stage.

Our mission is to elevate the practice of foreign policy in Iraq through rigorous research, public engagement, and collaborative diplomacy. We work to nurture a well-informed national perspective on international affairs while strengthening Iraq’s ability to navigate a rapidly changing geopolitical landscape.

Our Objectives

Strengthen Foreign Policy Practice: Promote a modern, rational, and strategic approach to Iraq’s foreign relations that safeguards national interests.

Support Research and Scholarship: Encourage academic and policy-oriented research in international relations, political science, and diplomacy.

Empower Human Capital: Build the capacity of Iraq’s diplomatic corps and foreign policy professionals to act with skill and foresight.

Enhance Dialogue and Understanding: Create opportunities for engagement and cooperation between Iraqi institutions and international actors.

Our Mission

“We envision an Iraq globally integrated, diplomatically empowered, and capable of advancing its national interests through strategic, evidence-based foreign policy.”
